A former student and close personal friend of Pope John Paul II, Grygiel has served as vice president of the central session of the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and the Family, located at the Pontifical Lateran University, where he holds the Karol Wojtyła chair in philosophical anthropology. From 1966 to 1980, Professor Grygiel taught courses in the philosophy of man at the Pontifical Theological Academy of Krakow.
